Why shouldn’t I use my cellular data plan to transmit snaps
We have the app set to sync when you connect to a WiFi network, with many phone plans you are limited on the data you can send. If you have an unlimited data plan, you can enable cell sync in the setting section and your snaps will go as you take them.

gapNsnap takes securing user information very seriously. We will not share your user information with anyone unless we have your agreement to do so.

Paypal email use
Your PayPal information is only used to send you payments for snaps taken. We will not share or otherwise use this information.
Is Paypal the only option
Yes. As we expand our services and receive user feedback, we will look into adding other options.
How soon will I get my reward
We are striving to get you your rewards as soon as 24 hrs after you have earned them. Once we have received your synced snaps we can verify them and transmit payment.
What do I do if I don’t get my reward
If it’s been a few days and you don’t see payment in your PayPal account, please send us a note to email@example.com.
Do you plan on sharing my PayPal information
No. We use your PayPal information only to send you payments for gapNsnapping.
General use questions
How do I use the app
You can view the instructional video on the home page of the web site. If you want to skip the video, it’s really pretty simple:
- Launch the app
- Select your location
- Take snaps (as many as you see)
- End session
- Connect to a WiFi network
- Sync (this will happen automatically)
- Get rewarded
Why should I launch the app before I go into the store
When you are selecting your location, we use the GPS in your phone to determine your location so we can deliver a list of stores nearby – many times, it is difficult to get a signal once you are beyond the front door of a building.
What do I do if my store is not on the list
Sometimes this happens – if the store is “new” or if you are in a really densely populated retail area, the store may not show up. In either case, just click on the “add” button on the Select Location screen and type in the name of the store – we’ll do the rest.
Why do I need to register my loyalty cards
This is an optional service we are working on – in the future entering your loyalty cards will help the retailer deliver very specific offers to you.
Why do I have to tap on the shelf tag on the screen
One of the best features of the app is what we call the “tapNsnap” feature for capturing the out of stocks. With tapNsnap, you just tap the screen where the tag is, it autofocuses and snaps the pic – one less button, better quality pictures and easier one handed operation.
Why does my snap have to include some of the empty shelf
We need to “show” the retailer and supplier the actual out of stock so they have confidence in our data.
Does it work everywhere
Good question – We can accept any retailer with a shelf tag, in the US. As we are starting up, we are focusing on grocery, drug, electronics, pet and mass merchants. But don’t feel limited, if you see an out of stock, snap it.
Can I use cellular instead of WiFi to transmit snaps
Yes, but be mindful of your data plan – if you don’t have unlimited data, keep it on the default setting and sync only when on a WiFi network.
Can I have more than one phone associated to me
So, what’s realistic for number of snaps in a shopping trip
In our experience most users can get from 30 to 100 snaps in an average trip, in an average retail setting. It is possible, to take over a 1,000 snaps at some larger format stores and it has been done. There is no one right answer, but once you look around a bit, you will see there is no lack of holes to snap.
What about my battery life
Using video or taking photos saps a battery. We recommend at least a 50% charge if you are going to be in the store for a while – And as always, be sure to have a car charger with you to top back up for the day.
Will the snaps stay on my phone
No – they do not stay on your phone, they do not get synced to any cloud based service (like iCloud) and they do not show up later when you sync your phone.
Why does it take so long to sync
We are transmitting full sized images (which can be rather large) for the time being. We need to ensure we have a clear picture to capture the information on the shelf tag.
What if I forget my password
There is a feature in the app to reset your password.
Can I put gapNsnap on my company owned device
We do not restrict your ability to load gapNsnap on a company owned device. However, your company might. Also, most company phones have a forced lock time on them which can interfere with the syncing process so it could take a bit of time to sync. Remember, there are many iOS devices you can use. If you have an old iPhone (3 GS or above), or a newer iPod touch or iPad device at home, you can use them as well.
How do I get my snaps to sync
Once you end a session and connect to a WiFi, just open the app and it will start syncing on it’s own.
What if my snaps stop syncing
Sometimes the app gets “distracted” by some other activity on the phone. In that case, just re-open the app while on WiFi and it will start up again.
What do I do if I get an error message
From the home screen, just shake the phone and it will generate an email you can send us. We will be able to debug the issue. You can also check out our help options.
Do I need a cell signal to choose a location
A cell or WiFi signal is necessary to determine your location and download the list of stores to your device. If you find you can’t get connected, just use the “add” button on the Select Location screen. Type in the store name and we’ll do the rest.
Can I use this on an Android, Windows or Blackberry phones
Today, gapNsnap is available for the iOS platform only. We are designing an Android version now due to overwhelming response from our user community and will strive to make the iOS / Android combo look, and work the same for our users.
How do I know if my snap was good
If you tapped on the shelf tag, you can actually see the app auto focus then take the snap.
Can I delete a snap
We are planning to enable a review / delete function as we move into developing a quality score for snappers. This will allow us to recognize those folks who are going over and above with snapping.
Sometimes the shelf tags “glow” like a reflector – what’s up with that
It’s an unfortunate combination of the store lighting (usually florescenct) and the material the tags are made of. We have found that if you hold your phone landscape “long ways” it will often reduce or eliminate the glow effect. We have also noticed that angling the shot a bit helps as well.
Can I change my Opting in /out selection
Yes. From the device you can always control your ability to opt in or out of campaigns. Remember, there are also some state regulations on participation and you might not be eligible even if you opt in.
Can I participate in more than one campaign at a time
Yes. You are eligible for the campaigns you see on your device. If the campaign has a “limited number of users” requirement, we will reward those users who downloaded the results back to us first.
How will I know when there are new campaigns
You can always check the campaigns page to see what’s available in your market. As we expand our service, campaigns will be added all the time – check in often to see the latest ones.
When will I get paid
As we receive your snaps, we ensure you have qualified for the campaign, then send payment instructions to PayPal nightly.
How do I know if I qualified for a campaign
If you see it listed, you are eligible. Many times, we are being asked to run campaigns for a limited number of users – say, $1.00 for 50 snaps for the first 5,000 users. In this case, it is open to everyone and the first 5,000 who sync their snaps are eligible for payment.
What if my snaps didn’t sync in time to participate in a particular campaign
We have to choose between when you took them and when you synced them. Since we have no visibility prior to your syncing them to us, we have to go with when we receive them so we can process the campaign in a timely manner for everyone participating.
